Obviously, the Nugget people need to be provided with food and water, so one of the first things one should do is prepare crops. The climate of our planet has a direct influence on the prosperity of our civilization. Some may have more natural resources than others, and some might have different terrain and fauna, but most will feature at least a few tidbits of forests, sand-filled deserts, mountains and lakes. Each planet will be unique every time you start up a new universe, with each planet having various degrees of hospitality. It is worth mentioning that these planets are all randomly generated. In the game’s current state, you can only progress your civilization to the Middle Ages, so there really isn’t a lot to see just yet (this is Early Access after all). We will be able to colonize other worlds in the future, but for now, we will have to make do with our little planet. Events start to unfold with the press of a button, which sets off the Big Bang that creates an entire universe.

When starting up the game, the player does do not possess their full set of God powers and will be forced, for the time being, to look after one single planet, which the Nuggets inhabit. They will be your Adam and Eve, a fragile and bizarre species that relies on the player’s God powers to advance their civilization to great heights (literally). If you were waiting for a definite God Game experience, then The Universim might just be the game you have been looking for, but if you are still unsure about this specific genre then this game certainly won’t change your mind.Įach time you start a new game, your starter planet will be different, offering new challenges each time.

After all, there was always something about influencing your people’s prosperity and technological advancements, as well as helping them survive the dangers of a harsh world. Ever since games like Reus (2013), gamers have wished for more power and control over the many little humans who populate their virtual world. The God Game genre has had a great track record in the past, but lately, it has struggled to stay on top of the wave of trends that seem to have overtaken the gaming industry. Released in Early Access, this little Indie game caught my attention with its beautiful visuals and interesting premise, but is that alone enough to carry the game? The game in question is The Universim, developed by Crytivo Games. Don’t be alarmed, though, for this isn’t some philosophical rant about man’s thirst for power – instead, it is the late review for a game that came out in August of this year. If I don't get better at using telekinesis, though, I'm not sure my little nuggets will make it there.Who does not like power? Surely almost everyone does. Currently, in Early Access, you can advance as far as the end of the medieval era. Plans for its future include guiding the little civilization into the space age, with skyscrapers and rockets and the colonization of other planets. The Universim, so far, is pretty cute when I'm not horribly and inadvertently destroying the lives of the little people depending on my help. At one point, yes, I do accidentally pick up a nugget with telekinesis, and yes, while he's in my godly hand I zoom my view far away from the planet, and yes, the nugget does asphyxiate to death in space as a result.

I begin to feel helpful and accepted as their god. Their buildings slowly deteriorate and I can heal the buildings, too. Anytime any nugget has the slightest injury or illness, I fly over and heal them. I finally discover something useful to do, which is healing.

I'm dreading reading whatever bible is written, once they've learned how to write. As a god, my little nuggets now know me as one who flings trees and dead animals around and mutilates corpses. Two other nuggets who had been humping in a nearby hut walk out, stare in what I assume is abject horror, and then walk away, probably with deep-seated psychological issues that will never let them achieve arousal again.
